The Story of Rock Medical

Rock Medical was born from an unexpected turn of events. After accepting a COO role with an international non-profit and leaving a prior leadership position, Darren Tewes found the opportunity rescinded due to the COVID pandemic. What could have been a setback instead provided the chance to pause, reflect, and chart a new direction.

Following a relocation from Arizona to Wichita, Kansas, Mr. Tewes began connecting with local healthcare professionals. Through those conversations, he was introduced to Dr. Greg George, President of a large anesthesia provider group in the Midwest. Dr. George shared one of his greatest frustrations: the ongoing challenge of overseeing and optimizing revenue cycle management. After switching billing companies three times and still facing unsatisfactory results, he questioned whether a truly effective solution existed.

It soon became clear that Mr. Tewes—bringing extensive healthcare leadership experience—was uniquely positioned to help solve this problem. The solution would be built on transparency, billing accuracy, and partnership: a revenue cycle management solution that would act as an extension of the practice itself.

Recognizing that success depends on both strategy and people, Rock Medical brought in Julie McDaniel to lead operations. With more than 20 years of anesthesia RCM experience, from direct coding to managing large billing departments, Julie’s expertise, education, and passion made her the perfect fit to deliver billing excellence.

Launched in 2023, Rock Medical has already delivered measurable results. The company has increased client revenue collections by 7% and reduced accounts receivable days by 13, outperforming prior billing vendors and proving the value of its people-first approach.
