Our Story
Fresh out of residency, Dr. George passed his ABA written boards. Despite intensive study utilizing the most popular board preparation material, he failed his first attempt at the applied exam. This experience led him to believe the market did not offer an adequate solution so he formed his own company, Ultimate Board Prep (UBP) to provide a better option. UBP has subsequently helped over 7,000 doctors become board certified, becoming the industry leader in ABA board preparation.
Today, Dr. George is the President of a group of anesthesia providers in the mid-west. One of his most challenging duties has been to monitor and optimize revenue cycle management. After switching anesthesia billing companies twice, he was once again questioning whether there was an adequate solution in the marketplace. While in-house billing was a consideration, the risk, cost, and administrative burden seemed excessive.
The ideal solution would offer the expertise and efficiency of a large billing company with the transparency and personal investment of an in-house billing department. Unfortunately, Dr. George found that most billing companies prioritized profitability over billing excellence. It was only through a chance introduction to Darren Tewes, that a solution began to take shape. Through a series of discussions, it became evident that Mr. Tewes, with an extensive background in healthcare leadership, was the ideal partner to build the solution with Dr. George. This revenue cycle management company would prioritize transparency and billing excellence, functioning as an extension of the practice.
Over the next year, Dr. George and Mr. Tewes took on the task of researching the industry and identifying those areas where they believed they would overcome deficiencies in the current marketplace. It was during this process that they met Julie McDaniel. With over two decades of experience in anesthesia revenue cycle management, from direct coding to running large billing departments, it was apparent she had the passion, education, and expertise to drive billing excellence. Eventually, just as UBP was formed to fill the market need for higher quality board preparation, Rock Medical was formed to offer a better solution for revenue cycle management.

Darren Tewes
Chief Executive Officer
Darren is co-founder of Rock Medical and serves as the Chief Executive Officer. He holds a master’s degree in business administration. A gifted leader with a passion for client service and patient care, Darren has excelled in the healthcare industry by driving business excellence with the end goal of serving people. With over 17 years of senior healthcare management, Darren brings experience in all facets of business leadership. Darren currently resides in Wichita, Kansas with his wife Bobbi. While not working you can find him on a pickleball court or spending time with his family.
Dr. Greg
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. George is co-founder of Rock Medical and serves as the Chief Medical Officer. He is a board-certified anesthesiologist in private practice since 2004 and has held the role of President of Mid-Continent Anesthesiology, Chartered since 2017, leading the group to over 300% growth in his first six years in office. He founded Ultimate Board Prep, Inc. in 2008, which has subsequently become the industry leader in board preparation for the ABA Applied Exam. His most recent endeavor has been to establish Rock Medical with the goal of providing an anesthesia billing solution that prioritizes excellence and transparency. Dr. George currently resides in Wichita, Kansas with his wife Jill and their six children.
Julie McDaniel
VP of Operations
Julie serves as the Vice President of Operations for Rock Medical. She holds a master’s degree in healthcare administration and has over 20 years of experience working at all levels of anesthesia revenue cycle management. Julie began her career in the anesthesia billing space at an entry level position, eventually working her way up to managing teams responsible for $60M in annual collections from more than 300 providers. In addition to her master’s degree, she has earned her CPC and CANPC certification. Outside of work she has held multiple positions in her local AAPC chapter, including serving as President. Julie currently resides in Birmingham, Alabama with her husband Phil and their two children.
